International Kids Fund strives to assist children in receiving life-saving medical care at the Holtz Children’s Hospital of the UM/Jackson Memorial Medical Center. During their treatment, the children are looking for a glimpse of hope and happiness. With the help of the community, IKF is able to fulfill these children’s wishes.
One of those kids is Wilians Hernandez who underwent surgery for Epispadias on March 27, 2014. Wilians had one wish before returning home to Cuba, and that was to meet Jose Fernandez from the Miami Marlins.
On May 2, 2014, the Miami Marlins’ Community Outreach granted that wish by arranging a meet and greet, and providing Wilians tickets to watch his hero pitch in person. What an unforgettable moment for Wilians as he met Jose Fernandez for the first time. We were overjoyed to see the smile on Wilian’s face.
Wilians will be returning to Miami in 6 months for his last procedure, and is already looking forward to a healthier life and the opportunity to see Jose pitch another amazing game.
Thank you Miami Marlin’s Community Outreach and Jose Fernandez for your support and generosity, you gave this teenager a reason to smile.
